GILLETTE, Wyo. — A Gillette man is accused of stealing multiple iPads after breaking into a local chiropractic office with a knife and then later endangering children with drugs, Campbell County court records say.

Colby Thomas, 46, is charged with felony burglary for allegedly breaking into Western Plains Chiropractic on June 16 as well as two other felonies for possession of meth and endangering children with the drug on June 17, court records state.

The burglary was reported at 7:14 a.m. on June 17 after Western Plains Chiropractic staff arrived at work to find a disheveled office that “looked like a bomb went off in here,” according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in the case, which further stated multiple areas in the main office were rummaged through or were strewn about.

Staff reported four iPads, bank registries, a cup of change, and a six-pack of root beer had been taken after they left the business, locked, at 6:30 p.m. on June 16, per the affidavit.

Through surveillance footage, Thomas was identified as a suspect, which reportedly showed a bald, white male with the word “Slayer” tattooed across the back of his head, the affidavit states, further adding that officers matched the suspect in the surveillance video with a jail booking photo of Thomas.

When officers contacted him at his residence, they found multiple iPads on the floor along with several check books with Western Plains Chiropractic labels on them and a six-pack of root beer, per the affidavit.

Thomas allegedly told officers that a majority of the items were not his and, when asked about a knife he used to pry open a window to gain access to the business, pointed out a knife with a broken point in a paracord sheath, the affidavit states.

He told officers that he had been intoxicated the previous evening and could not remember breaking into the business and taking the items, per the affidavit.

While officers searched Thomas’ bedroom for other missing items, they reportedly uncovered a gray “Everstart” zip-up pouch in his backpack that contained a digital scale, multiple baggies, a plastic tube, a bag containing multiple jeweler’s baggies, and another containing rubber bands, according to a separate affidavit of probable cause filed in the case.

The plastic tube had other baggies containing 1.6 grams of suspected methamphetamine, per the affidavit, which adds that Thomas was charged with his third or subsequent drug possession charge and endangering children with drugs after he was found to be the only adult in the house.

Thomas was arraigned on the charges before Circuit Court Judge Paul S. Phillips on Monday, June 20, who during the hearing called the nature of the offenses “disturbing and appalling.”

Phillips set bond for Thomas at $7,500 cash or commercial surety, with preliminary hearings for the burglary and drug charges set for June 27.
